Macroscopic study #14583/2017

In some sucumbed animals, a necropsy is performed showing severe wasting. Additional gross finding were observed in the alimentary system (ileum, caecum and colon), where a shiny and swollen mucosa (edema) was seen. The mucosal surface showed thickened and rough, with prominent folds, and giving a "cerebroid aspect".

The intestinal serosa of the affected portions had a marked dilation of the lymphatic vessels (lymphangiectasias). The mesenteric lymph nodes were enlarged (lymphadenomegaly), and when cut the surface protrudes, displayed whitish, bright (edema) and homogeneous (loss of cortico-medullary differentiation) image.
